Generosity Sunday: December 28th

In early 2009 we began to plan the launch of Upper Perkiomen Community Church. By the summer of 2009 we were beginning to gather our launch team and were meeting in backyards for fellowship, vision sharing, and relationship building time. God provided a place to meet and we began meeting as a launch team for worship in September 2009. We set a launch date of January 2010 and worked to prepare the worship space and our team for ministry. Our first public service was January 10, 2010 and we were blessed to have over 150 in attendance with no advertising or big push. 2010 was a year of finding our way and learning as we established the church.

As 2011 unfolded and our church body began to grow we followed through on one of our commitments which was to handle the subject of giving and church finances in an open and transparent way. Through God’s blessing, we found our finances very solid and God led us to make a “crazy” decision. We decided that the last Sunday of the year, we would give away our entire General Fund offering to honor God for His blessing. Not only that, but we asked everyone to pray for a record offering! Generosity Sunday was chosen as the name of this event.
God honored our request and gave us our largest offering of the year and we were able to send out over $7,000 to other ministries. This was truly amazing to us as we were at the time averaging about $3,000 a week in giving.

Since then, Generosity Sunday has become an annual event for us, as we set aside the final offering of the year and give away the entire undesignated, General Fund giving. In 2012, Generosity Sunday allowed us to send out over $15,000 to other ministries and community organizations. Today, we are hoping to see Generosity Sunday become an event that helps other churches to unleash generosity in their churches as well. We teach our body to live with an open palm and not to focus on our church so much, but to think about the Kingdom and how we might build it.

We are excited again this year to see how God will use our efforts to give with open hearts on Sunday, December 28th, 2014.
